Pimpri: Fascinated by the Ganesh festival celebrated at his peers’ homes, Class IV student Anvar Shaikh insisted that his family too conduct similar rituals at his home. Bowing to his demand, Anvar’s family members at Shirgaon near Somatane are hosting the 11-day Ganesh festival for the past five years.
Anvar’s grandfather and former sarpanch Usmanbhai Shaikh and maternal uncle Police Patil Sameer Shaikh respected the boy’s wishes and since 2013, Ganesh festival has become an annual joyous affair at the Shaikhs’ family.
Initially, the Shaikh family was not aware of the various rituals associated with Ganesh festival and had to depend on a priest to get acquainted with them. Since then every year, the whole family takes part in preparing decorations for the festival and a priest ceremoniously installs Ganesh idol on Ganesh Chaturthi.
All members of the Shaikh family participate in the aarti sung before the Ganesh idol early morning during the festival. The idol will be immersed on the Anant Chaturdashi on Sunday.
