Pimpri: Students in Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC)-run schools will henceforth enjoy ‘No school bag days’ twice a month. The students studying in 105 primary schools run by the civic body will not be required to carry their school bags on every first and third Saturday of the month.
On these days, the students will not be involved in the routine studies. Instead, they will, for a change enjoy the extra-curricular activities including a parade, book readings, attending lectures and interviews of renowned persons.
The civic body’s Education Committee took a decision in this regard at its meeting held on July 19. The Education Board’s Chairperson Sonali Gavhane said the decision will be applicable to all primary schools run by the municipal corporation having classes from the first to the seventh standards, in Marathi, English, Hindi and Urdu mediums.
There are complaints that the primary school students are overburdened with the weight of their school bags. The PCMC Education Committee has taken this decision to provide relief to the students at least on two days in each month.
There are nearly 38,000 primary school students who will be benefited by the ‘no school bag days’ decision.
